Gato approved!

We bought this as a sturdy blanket to keep at the end of our bed where our cat loves to nap and stretch his claws when he awakens (hence the need for something sturdy)! He's even more glued to the bed than ever before ever since our blanket arriver, and the fact that it's gorgeous is a great bonus. Gracias, Compadre!

I've had a handful of these over the years and this is definitely the highest quality of any version I've seen thus far. It feels thick and durable and you can tell it was made with an attention to detail. Cool brand too. Will probably buy some as gifts.

What if my Compadre® feels a little tough?

t's not uncommon for your Mexican blanket to feel a little tough at first due to its high thread count, tight weaving and the nature of the materials used to make it. Rest assured your Compadre® get softer with time. Here’s why:

  • Natural Fibers: Our blankets are made from upcycled materials like cotton, acrylic and polyester. These fibers can be somewhat stiff when refurbished, especially before they've been washed or broken in yet.
  • Weaving Process: The weaving techniques used to create Mexican blankets often result in a dense, tightly woven fabric. This tight weave contributes to the blanket's initial toughness but also its durability. Over time, with use and washing, the fibers loosen up, making the blanket softer.
  • Use and Washing: As you use and wash the blanket, the fibers begin to relax and break down slightly, which contributes to the softening of the fabric. The friction from use and the washing process helps to smooth out the fibers, making the blanket more comfortable and cozy with time.

The initial toughness is a sign of the blanket’s durability, and with a little care, it will become softer, more pliable, and even more enjoyable to use.

Mexican BlanketS (General)

What is a Mexican Blanket?

When we say "Mexican blanket," we’re typically referring to the traditional "Falsa Blanket" — a colorful, woven textile originating from Mexico. Made with a mix of recycled cotton, acrylic, and polyester, these blankets are known for their durability and softness. They’re beauty and durability makes them ideal for decorative use, cozy layering, or outdoor adventures.

How do I care for my Mexican blanket?

To maintain the quality of your Mexican Blanket, hand wash it in cold water with mild detergent. Machine washing on cold is an option too, but avoid bleach or fabric softeners, as they can damage the fibers. After washing, lay the blanket flat to dry or hang it on a line. Avoid machine drying to preserve its texture and color.

Can I use a Mexican blanket outdoors?

Yes! Mexican Blankets are often used for outdoor activities due to their durability and comfort. They are perfect for picnics, beach days, camping, or yoga mats. Their thick woven fabric provides warmth and protection from the ground, making them versatile for various outdoor settings.

What are the different uses for a Mexican blanket?

Mexican Blankets are incredibly versatile. They can be used as throws for your bed or couch, decorative wall hangings, yoga blankets, or picnic blankets. They are also popular as beach covers, travel blankets, and even saddle blankets for horseback riding. Their vibrant designs make them a stylish addition to any home or outdoor setting.
